Description
Provenance
This Native Gold cabochon necklace is a chance for you to own a piece of natural gold and history!
This delightful Native Gold in Quartz and Mud Stone sculpted and wire wrapped cabochon comes from rough that was mined in California at the McLaughlin Mine during the 1980’s. During that time, the geologist for this mine collected a multitude of large, exceptionally high-quality specimens of elemental gold in its native state that he studied for the mine. Much of the raw material is native gold in white Quartz and black Mud Stone.
The McLaughlin Mine is the only place on earth where this mélange of minerals came together to create this stunning stone. In 2002, the open pit mine was purchased with the intent of turning it into a nature preserve. As a result, approximately 38 million tons of mill tailings, and 3 feet of composite material filled in the pit. It now resides under 145 feet of water, and all of its rarest native gold material is inaccessible.
Fortunately, Jim Vaĉek, 49erMinerals, acquired the estate of the mine’s geologist, and is creating spectacular cabochons from this magnificent raw material. In turn, I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to bring the mine’s hidden treasure to light.
