This gorgeous gem cabochon of clear Inca Rose Rhodochrosite is a translucent deep red/pink. This cabochon is highly polished and has been beautifully sculpted into a fabulous gemstone by Nick Alexander.

Rhodochrosite, which means rose-colored, is caused by the element manganese, and it is formed when manganese is dissolved by ground water combined with a carbonate material, and drips into caves. Caverns 50 feet wide and 20 feet high were filled with stalactites and stalagmites consisting entirely of banded pink Rhodochrosite up to five feet long and a foot in diameter.

Capillitas was the sole source of the Inca Rose Rhodochrosite deposit, which was formed 7 million years ago during volcanic activity. Sadly, in the late 1980s, the stalactites where all cut, and the caves destroyed, making this non-banded Capillitas Inca Rose Rhodochrosite cabochon rare and exceptional.

In 2002, Inca Rose became Argentina’s official national stone.

Rhodochrosite is believed to draw love to the wearer, help the release of past psychological issues and relieve stress.
